Signage

Questions to consider 🤔
  • Do you have any signage about how to save or return seeds?
  • How much space do you have for signage?
  • Do you have signage about how the library is organized?
  • Do folks know how many seeds they can take?
  • Do you have seeds about the quality and value of locally grown seeds?
Local Seeds Sign
It is important to clearly state that local seeds you offer may not be as labeled and that people in your community have different experience saving seed. Locally grown and shared seeds have been a part of human culture for over 10,000 years let's embrace and celebrate the diversity of seeds and the people who share them.  Make a copy of the Seed Signage/Disclaimer sign to post in your library.

Other Signage Ideas

You may want to include signage about:
  • Membership
  • Borrowing and donating
  • How to save seeds (Look at the "Super Easy" plants list)
  • Seed Viability Chart
  • Embrace Diversity! (A sign to help people vet the quality of locally grown seed)
  • Planting times (These are specific to your areas)
  • Gardening related tips (Get these from Master Gardeners or local nurseries)
  • Upcoming events
Planting Times Guides
Here is the Plant Now Poster for Richmond Grows Seed Lending Library. It is a 2x3 ft poster with planting times as well as ideal times to plant to harvest seed. It also includes the seed saving difficulty and where to find the seeds in the collection as is bilingual. Here is the link to the Canva document, https://bit.ly/RGPlantNow. NOTE: These planting times and seed saving are for cool coastal California and may be different for your region. Here is a video explaining the Plant Now Poster.
